Blue Flags of the Sicilian sea become six. In Porto Palo, Tusa, Lipari, Ispica, Pozzalo now also adds Marina di Ragusa.
These are the Sicilian beaches awarded in this 2016 with the recognition that rewards the seaside resorts of excellence along the Peninsula. This year 152 coastal municipalities (five more than in 2015) for a total of 293 beaches (280 last year) and 66 marinas will be a holder of the 2016 Blue Flag, the international award given by the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee), which awards the quality of bathing water as well as sustainable tourism, careful waste management and enhancement of natural areas. The initiative, now in its XXX edition, still sees the summit Liguria with 25 places awarded and two new entries (Cerviale and Levanto), on the podium in front of Tuscany (19 and a new entrance, Massa) and Marche (17).
In Sicily, the province of Ragusa makes the lion’s share, in fact had assigned three ‘blue flags’ for this year. Three flags on six in Sicily makes it the ‘queen’ of the sea on the island. Recognition of Marina di Ragusa, Ispica and Pozzallo. The mayors of the three municipalities have withdrawn in Rome today the prestigious award. Pozzallo is the fourteenth time in a row, to Marina di Ragusa is a return after that last year had been ‘cut’, while, Ispica has for some years now with Santa Maria del Focallo who gets the ‘blue flag’.
